Saw Kate Rusby on Friday 7th December at Northampton’s Derngate theatre. It was the first time I’d been to the theatre (which is lovely: very modern with lots of nice places to eat and drink) and the first time I’d seen Kate. It won’t be the last. Kate is a folk singer and, as such, is enjoyed even more live than on CD. One of the things you don’t get from a studio recording is her sense of humour: just about every song was punctuated by a story or comment of one sort or another. She seems to me, old cynic that I am, to be one of that rare breed of people who are talented, popular and truly grateful for both. My daughters and I will be back next year.
